Connect the official desktop client
Patch reversibly, sign in, and verify that each user sees only authorized devices.
Before patching
- Confirm Runtime and SocketD health checks pass.
- Download the supported desktop patch from Customer Downloads and verify its checksum.
- Download and retain the supported official PrintNode client installer (4.29.3) from the official PrintNode download page.
- Quit the PrintNode client completely and back up its current configuration.
If your operating system blocks the patch
Windows
- Open the downloaded installer.
- If Microsoft Defender SmartScreen appears, confirm the filename and verified checksum.
- Select More info, then Run anyway.
- Approve the normal administrator prompt for this installer only.
macOS
- Copy XiotBox Desktop Patch from the DMG to Applications.
- Try to open it once, then close the warning.
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security.
- Find the blocked app message, choose Open Anyway, authenticate, then confirm Open.
Allow this app only. Do not turn off Gatekeeper system-wide.
Linux
- Verify the downloaded artifact and its SHA-256 value.
- Mark only that file executable:
chmod +x. - Run it as the documented desktop user; elevate only when the patch requests access to the PrintNode installation.
- Keep AppArmor or SELinux enabled and record any denial instead of disabling policy globally.
Unsigned or ad-hoc-signed builds must be labelled as evaluation previews. Production artifacts should use Authenticode on Windows and Developer ID signing plus notarization on macOS.
Apply and configure
- Run the verified patch with the permissions requested by your operating system.
- Enter the Runtime API URL, for example
https://print.example.com/runtime. Do not enter the Odoo URL. - Start the official PrintNode client.
- Sign in with the XiotBox/Odoo account assigned to this installation, or use its issued API key where the client requests an API key.
- Wait for the computer and local printers to be reported.
Verify in Odoo
Open Self-hosted Print → Computers. The computer should be online. Open its Printers list and check that names match the operating system. A normal user must see only devices owned by or shared with that user.
Undo the patch
Use the patch's Restore action or restore the backed-up configuration, then reinstall the retained official client if necessary. Confirm the endpoint has returned to the official service before cancelling XiotBox access.
